Long story short: Connect to people who inspire you! โคLong story:When I joined RHI Magnesita in 2022 my sales/technical women colleagues from South America welcomed me, even though I was working overseas. As all of us know, we are not a lot in the industry, and since the first moment, I felt really connected to them!We had an informal group, where I felt comfortable to share things, get technical support and do benchmarks!Today I can see how important it was for me to create my own comfort zone. And despite being in the East and them, in the West, we often experience similar challenges, and when we don't, they understand and welcome me anyway.They have been playing a big role in my development so far and motivation to keep working in this market where I don't feel represented. With this group, I am never afraid to sound stupid to ask questions that could be simple or share my thoughts, opinions and feelings.Also in 2022, we created the "Inspiring Talks", where each of us could invite a woman who inspires us to a 1-hour call to share their trajectories! This idea appeared when Isabela, who was my pair as a sales trainee, told us about her mother's corporate path... as I had never met many senior women so closely I was excited to meet her!We don`t have a structure for the "Inspiring Talks", or a frequency, and is hard to find a common time in our agendas due to time zone... but maybe the informal part is what makes it special and unique!! If I could give just one message for women joining companies from industry, it would be: Connect to people who inspire you!I moved to India in Jan/2023, and I was the only foreigner working in RHIM India and staying here, the opposite from Dubai office, where no one is from the UAE... It was difficult to set up myself and create a support network... Different from the UAE, Austria and France where was full of international and diversified people, with similar age and interests.At that time, Shiba was joining the company after the merge of Dalmia OCL, and she had worked before in Magnesita, even had two Brazilian bosses... She has more than 10 years of working in this field, staying in plant, after visiting customers in remote areas! I pleasurably had interactions with her.When I started to get to know Shiba, my first thought was to invite her to the "Inspiring Talks", because I wanted them also to meet someone so brilliant and empathetic! It finally happened!
